There are few things in life as amazing as gliding down a pristine slopw on a beautiful sunny day. Nowhere will you find the same feeling. We truly love our skiing or snowboarding riding. Yet we are still safety conscious. And that would be the reason we feel so compelled to share the following safety tips with other skiers or snowboarders.
Reading your route by looking for tell-tale signs of past events is an important skill to learn. Anytime there is a huge avalanche, you hear about it on the news. As you well know, they are devastating and unforgiving. But you need to know that small avalanches are just as deadly as the large ones you hear about on the news. Reading your small routes is more about experience than anything else. This important skill should not be ignored even though it is not that easy to learn. It can be difficult to detect the variations in the terrain but you need to learn to study them. This will allow you to spot potential hazards as well as recognize signs of past damage.
One thing that several skiers and riders tend to forget is the criticalness of drinking liquids when doing something they are devoted to. You might be amazed at how rapidly you can become dehydrated and that can have a drastic effect on your energy levels. Not only that, but you can experience a serious case of muscle cramps in your legs simply due to lack of water in the ole' system. You are aware of how much a muscle cramp can hurt, we definitely do, and you for sure don't want to have one come about when you're in the middle of a chancy turn or strategy that commands every bit of your attention and talents. Make sure to carry along energy bars and water with you and this is really imperative if you're out and isolated from civilization.
You should also consider a quick release system for your snowboard. It will require some slight modifications to be made to your plate binding, though. Many snowboarders highly recommend making the modifications for various reasons. There are many situations where you would need to jettison your board. The modifications aren't that difficult to do and you should be able to find the plans easily. You can also look for a board shop that is willing to do it if you would rather not. There is a wide variety of safety devices and systems available for avid skiers and snowboarders. You don't need to go to extreme measures but it is very valuable to know the potential hazards involved as well as how to deal with the local terrain. Researching an unfamiliar area before traveling there is highly recommended. Local ski shops are also a great source of information.
